Wanderer, Feb '26
"Beautifully isolated and deeply calming. Every moment felt intentional and grounding."
— Jonathan B, Melbourne

⸻ Who comes here
Four kinds of
Wanderer.
Pick the one that sounds most like the reason you're crossing to the island, and we'll point you to the WanderPod best suited.

01 / 04
For the global traveller who's seen the rest.
You measure a place against the best you've stayed. The island is as wild as it is remote, and the pod is built to match.
Recommended PODS

02 / 04
For the couple marking something that matters.
A life milestone or the few nights together you've been promising yourselves. This destination earns the occasion.
Recommended PODS

03 / 04
For the family who wants the wild, not a resort.
Seal colonies, wallabies at dusk, and empty beaches. The landscape is the entertainment and screens are left behind.

⸻ The transformation
You came a long way and the island rewards you for it.
Not with more to do, but with less. The days lose their edges and you wake when the light says to. By the second morning you have stopped reaching for your phone as the first thing you do. By the third, you have stopped asking what time it is.
This is what guests come back for: not the trip, but the version of themselves they found on the other side of it. Calmer, more present, quieter than when they arrived.
The distance you travelled is the reason the quiet holds. Nothing this far out is in a hurry, and neither, by now, are you.
— Cass & the Wander team
⸻ The land
Across the 'Backstairs Passage'
About six times the size of Singapore, Karta Pintingga, Kangaroo Island, broke from the mainland around ten thousand years ago and has kept its own counsel ever since. More than a third of the island is dedicated nature reserve, and some of what lives here lives nowhere else on earth.
⸻ A few nights, roughly
The shape of
a few quiet days.
A loose guide, not a schedule. The crossing sets the pace before you arrive, and most Wanderers have found their rhythm by the first evening. The only fixed points are check-in and check-out.
01 · first day, 3:00pm
Arrival
Drive the country road through long golden grasses. The pod is ready for you with a welcome note on the bench. A fire, local olives and a bottle of island red.
02 · FIRST evening, dusk
The first bath
Fill the stone bath outside. Watch the skies transform in front of you over the vast ocean and notice how distant the mainland seems.
03 · DAY 2, Slow
Wildlife, then stillness
The mornings belong to the kangaroos. The beach below is usually empty and the afternoon asks nothing of you: slow coffee on the deck, a salty swim if you want one.
04 · DAY 3, Last morning
Departure
Check-out is 11am. You will return to the mainland feeling more grounded than you arrived. We find people always do.
⸻ Two ways to Wander · What's included
Arrive to everything,
want for nothing.
Two ways to Wander. Inclusive arrives dinner-ready with local produce and wine from the region. Essentials keeps the pantry clear for Wanderers who prefer to bring their own.

01 / 06
A fully provisioned pantry
Select to have seasonal produce and wine, sourced directly from local suppliers waiting in your pod on arrival.

02 / 06
Considered amenities
Cultiver flax linen sheets, Leif botanical soaps, sustainably sourced Teadrop and Tripod coffee pods with local milk.

03 / 06
Fireplace & wood
Dry hardwood stacked on arrival. Fire starters and matches in the drawer. The rest is up to the evening.

04 / 06
Off-grid by design
Powered by the sun and the sky. Water is collected from the land surrounding your pod.

05 / 06
A $10 contribution
Every direct booking sends $10 to Bush Heritage Australia. Your stay funds the protection of country it sits on.

06 / 06
A digital guide before you arrive
A Wanderer's Guide to Kangaroo Island in your inbox before you get there. Suggestions on what's open and what's worth it from the people who live there.

⸻ Practicalities
The small print, made simple.
Everything you’d reasonably ask before booking. If we've missed anything, the Wander team are on the phone and you'll speak to a human, not a chatbot.
The most asked question
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, there’s Wi-Fi included at each pod. There are no televisions, by design, to help you disconnect by choice. Most Wanderers tell us the quiet was the best part about their stay.
How many days do you need on the island?
The island is big and remote. Whilst we have a 2 night minimum stay, we recommend staying at least 3 to 4 nights especially if you are coming from interstate or internationally to get the most out of your trip.
How far is it from Adelaide?
From Adelaide, Kangaroo Island is a short 45 minute flight to Kingscote. Hire a car from the island airport and make the ~50min drive west to the pods.
If you are driving from Adelaide, you'll make your way south through McLaren Vale on a 1.5hr drive to Cape Jervis. The SeaLink vehicle ferry takes ~45mins to get to Penneshaw Jetty on the island. From there, head west for a 1hr 20min drive to the pods.
No matter how you arrive, we suggest booking early as both flights and the ferry sell out quickly, particularly in the summer.
What does "Inclusive" mean?
A provisioned kitchen with local seasonal produce. Essentials is self-catered but still stocked with the basics such as local olive oil, salt and pepper. Select to add on the regional wine pack if you want to make your stay complete.
Can I book now and pay later?
Yes. WanderPay lets you secure your stay now and pay in instalments before arrival. Select this payment option at checkout.
Cancellation?
Free cancellation up to 30 days before arrival. Full details confirmed in the Booking T&Cs here.
